Meals in early childhood education and comprehensive schools

Versatile and nutritious meals support the health, growth, and learning ability of children and young people. During mealtimes, taste preferences and habits are broadened, and good eating manners as well as appreciation for food are taught.

The food service of Valkeakoski City is responsible for the preparation, transportation, and serving of meals in the city’s schools and daycare centers. The meals are prepared in accordance with the dietary recommendations of the National Nutrition Council.

The menu is based on contemporary Finnish everyday food culture. The menu is designed with health, economy, and sustainability in mind. The menu cycle is seven weeks, and it alternates between soups, sauces, casseroles, and individual dishes. Efforts are made to offer a wide variety of vegetables in different forms. The menu also takes into account various holidays, events, and themes.
