Public libraries are open to everybody and provide information service, literature, newspapers and peridiocals, CD-ROM's, language courses, sound recordings, videos and dvd's.

Valkeakoski Public Library Collections
The Valkeakoski Public Library provides books, audio books, language courses, videos, DVD's and CD-ROM's as well as a wide range of magazines and newspapers in various languages and the opportunity to use the Internet. The rules of the library's workstations.

Through the inter-library lending service one can borrow books both from Finnish and foreign libraries. In addition, the library organizes various literary and children's events.
The Mobile Library serves people who live outside the town centre as well as schools and day-care centres. The Music Library has a wide range of sheet music, music books, records, videos and music magazines. A music listening room with a piano is also available. For people living outside the town centre there is a library in Sääksmäki.
Library Card
You can visit the library without having a library card, but you need one to borrow books or other material and if you want to use our internet terminals. If you want the library card, you have to present an identification card.
If you lose your library card, please report this immediatly to us, because you are responsible for any misuse of the card until a report has been made.
Borrowing
There is no charge for borrowing library items. Every time when you borrow books or other materials, you have to present your library card.
You can reserve items on loan. Borrowing books is free, but the reservation costs 1,00 E.
The loan period is either 28, 14 days or 1 week, depending what material you are borrowing. You can check the due date from the receipt.
You can renew your books and other materials five times if nobody else have reserved them.
The renewing can be done by asking it in the library, by Internet in PIKI Netlibrary or by phone tel. 040 355 7055.
If you need your books even longer and you want renew them sixth time, you must bring them to the library and renew them there. Next five times you can renew them again without carrying them to the library.
Some fines and chargeable services
Most services, like borrowing, using Internet, reading newspapers, etc. are free.
But:
If the material you have borrowed is over due, the charges are:
- books, magazines, cd-roms, sheet music, recordings, videos and dvds : 0,15 E / day
- notification demanding return: 1,00 E / notice
Replacement of a library card: 2 E
Reservation fee: 1,00 E or 2 E
Inter-library service: 5 E
Photocopies and printouts:
A4, A3 black and white
0,40 E,
A4, A3 coloured
0,80 E
Bags: 0,30 E/ bag
Damaged library material must be replaced or paid for.
