The library offers you

In the children's section you will find picture books, fairy tales, novels, books with facts, poems, joke books, comics, magazines, DVDs, videos, CD-ROMs, audio books, fairy tales on CDs and music CDs. 

All of these you can borrow and take home - when you have a library card.

These is no age limit for a library card. If you are under 15, you should come with you parent or guardian to get the library card. Library need to enter you parent's or guardian's personal data in our library register. Please, bring your KELA-card with you. If you come alone, we will give you a form which your parent of guardian can fill in and sign.

You can find library's books and other materials in a library datebase on the Internet. The database is called PIKI. You need a password for renewing your loans and making reservations.

If there is any material you would like us to have, your suggestions are welcome!

In the children's section you can also
  • read magazines for children and young people
  • use computers, play chess and backgammon
  • listen to stories in the story hour on Saturdays


In the adults' section of the library you will find fiction and non-fiction books, music CDs, DVDs, audio books, comics
Valkeakoski public library provides fiction in Finnish, Swedish, English, German, Russian, French, Estonian, Spanish and Chinese. If you want to read books in any other language, we can order books for you from the other libraries. Through the inter-library lending service, you can also borrow books from both Finnish and international libraries. 

Newspapers and peridiocals

The Valkeakoski Library subscribe to over 200 newspapers and periodicals. Apart from the most current issue, all periodicals are for loan. The loan period for periodicals is two weeks.

In addition, you can use the PressDisplay service on the library computers to access on-line newspapers in different languages. 


The music department is situated in the Main Library of Valkeakoski. The Music Department houses recordings, notes and information about music. You can listen to music in the listening chairs. 

If an item is on loan, you can make a reservation in PIKI database. 

International activities

Valkeakoski Public Library took part in the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) congress 2017 in Wrocław, Poland, with the poster "Raising Infants and Their Families as Readers: Multi-professional collaboration of library and child health clinic to support and motivate families of 6-month-old infants" (2349 kB).
